REVIEW
Made a few years before his highly successful When Father Was Away on Business, director Kusturica's perceptive and amusing coming-of-age drama is set in 1960s Sarajevo. The story centers around the family life of Dino, an amiable 16-year-old who befriends a caustic but engaging young prostitute, nicknamed Dolly Bell. An engrossing film which delves into Yugoslavia's ever-shifting nature of nonaligned Communism and its effect on the family, especially the young. (Serbian with English subtitles)
