Truly a landmark film in its positive and very realistic depiction of a love affair between two attractive and intelligent women, offering the viewer a human-scale, tender treatment of two women in love. A dude ranch in Reno, Nevada, in 1959 is the setting for the meeting of an uptight Columbia University professor awaiting her divorce and a free-spirited and openly gay sculptress who lives on the ranch. Shaver and Charbonneau both give warm, expansive performances.
