Demolition Man (Sylvester Stallone)

In this surprisingly effective and comical action film, Stallone plays a renegade cop whose battle with bad-guy Snipes leads to the deaths of innocent civilians. Both are frozen as punishment. Thirty-five years later, in a grotesquely funny fascist Utopian society, Snipes escapes, and an ill-equipped police department defrosts Sly to help them catch him. First-time director Brambilla has a good eye in creating an off-center future, and his action sequences are well-staged. As the over-the-top villain, Snipes clearly seems to be enjoying himself.
