Deep Rising

A perfect example of cookie-cutter movie-making, Deep Rising is an odd, uneven though strangely enjoyable hybrid of The Poseidon Adventure, Speed 2, Die Hard, Predator and all four Alien films. Defying logic and coherence, the film puts a colorful assortment of typically underwritten characters in jeopardy when a luxurious cruise ship is undertaken by bad guys with guns. The twist is that a gigantic underwater creature has come up from the depths for supper. Lots of pre-fab suspense and bloody mayhem ensues, though the effects are distractingly cheesy. Still, there's lots of campy, B-movie fun to be had.
