Dead Man on Campus

Two college roommates, failing their classes, decide to save their skins by taking advantage of a university rule that allots a 4.0 average to anyone whose roommate commits suicide. They search for the perfect candidate. Gosselaar and Scott give engaging performances under trying circumstances, and there's a few more laughs than would be expected. Still, this is an unpleasant, tasteless premise, and irresponsible partyers are amusing for only so long. John Waters or Mel Brooks may have been able to mine this dangerous comic field, but Cohn doesn't have a first clue. Like so many teen flicks, this tries to have its cake and eat it, too. Heathers it ain't.
