SKINOPSISWhen her boyfriend overdoses on heroin, Yolanda seeks refuge in the form of the "Humble Redeemers," an order of heroin-addicted nuns (nun-junkies ...nunkies?). Cristina Sánchez Pascual, as Yolanda, appears with her top off - and joy! - there's not a track mark to be seen. Her hair, on the other hand, is fried like funnel cake.
REVIEW
While not Almodóvar's best work, Dark Habits nonetheless manages to carry the director's unparalleled sense of twisted, subversive and blacker-than-black humor. When Yolanda's boyfriend dies of an overdose of heroin, she decides it's better to run and hide than face the law. She winds up at the doorstep of the "Humble Redeemers," an order of heroin-addicted nuns who specialize in cases like hers -- indeed they were all once cases like her! The cast includes some of the familiar Almodóvites: Serrano stars as the Mother Superior and Maura appears as the cloister's resident tiger keeper, Sister Sin. (Spanish with English subtitles)
