This gripping political drama based on the Julius and Ethel Rosenberg case divides its story between two eras: the 1950s, when the Rosenbergs were (unjustly?) sentenced to death; and the late 1960s, where their surviving children grapple with the memory of their parents (Patinkin, Crouse). Hutton plays the title character, whose search for the truth about his mom and dad (here called the Isaacsons) ushers a wave of recollections about them. Expertly acted, this rewarding film moves slowly, but never fails to move the viewer.
