REVIEW
This tragi-comic love story about the fictionalized, nonsexual relationship between the handsome foundry worker Horty (Martinez) and the beautiful chambermaid of the title, Marie (Sanchez-Gijon), is all promise and no payoff. Director Lunas tries to create a charming period piece about love, trust, and truth, but this joyless film lacks depth and passion. As Horty recounts his adventures to his friends about how he helped Marie when she is stranded the night before the ocean liner sails, the excitement his coworkers feel hearing his tale is not shared by the viewer. The two leads ooze sex appeal, and a scene in which they share kisses under a dining room table generates some heat, yet there is little else of interest in their chaste relationship. Horty's wife Zoe (Bohringer) complicates matters in the final third, but by that time, The Chambermaid on the Titanic has capsized almost completely.
