Classic 1930s tear-jerker with Garbo in one of her best roles (most Garbo-ites feel this is her definitive portrayal) as Alexander Dumas' doomed courtesan. One of the better examples of those opulent M-G-M productions which the studio either excelled at (as in this instance) or overproduced and ultimately butchered. They could have found a better Armand than Taylor, but Daniell is sensational as the villainous Baron de Varville.
