REVIEW
Though played engagingly by both Crowe and Hayek, this minor romantic comedy has some good ideas and inventive visuals, but is sabotaged by a rambling screenplay and sometime static direction. The story follows the ups and downs of a relationship -- they love, they split, they argue, they reconcile, they make love, they split. Much more suited to the stage than the screen, Breaking Up has an energy level that is almost exhausting -- detailing a break-up and reconciliation doesn't necessarily need to make the viewer feel they, too, have sweated the anxiety of this volatile affair.
