Boys

As Boys illustrates through rather clichéd dramatics: Left to their own devices, boys will be boys. This film also illustrates: A contrived script left underdeveloped will soon be forgotten. Boys is based on a short story by James Salter, and the premise would stretch the limits of a 20-minute short. In his first "grown-up" role, Haas plays a high school senior at a boys' academy who shelters injured Ryder, who's avoiding the authorities; though why is a mystery. As the school becomes abuzz about a girl on campus, the young teen falls for the hard-partying, "older" woman. Scenes are dragged on too long, and it takes forever to get to the puzzle of what happened -- by then you just won't care.
