Steinberg, who codirected The Waterdance with Neal Jiminez, goes solo for his second effort, a loosely structured drama about four disillusioned twentysomethings looking for themselves. Fonda plays a young woman who finds herself in a dilemma when her estranged boyfriend (Roth) just takes off one day. Stoltz (the film's coproducer) is a house painter, quite content with life in the nowhere Arizona town where the film takes place, who meets and falls in love with stressed-out Fonda. Steinberg lets things unfold simply and slowly, which is much to the film's benefit.
