The Best Man (1999)

The Best Man is an effective comedy-drama that boasts good ensemble performances and a smart script. Diggs plays an about-to-be-published author of a semiautobiographical novel that his old college friends have gotten ahold of. Through some loose lips and the thinly veiled situations in the novel, many skeletons are let out of the closet during a weekend wedding/reunion. Though the end is a bit too pat, and things are never as intense or rich as they could be, The Best Man is nevertheless a solid, involving and entertaining film, with many universal dilemmas addressed.
