REVIEW
This silly, funny romp won't invigorate the "dumb comedy" genre in a way that stars Parker and Stone's "South Park" has restimulated TV animation, but they're nevertheless responsible for producing a high number of jokes which poke fun at sports, television, and those which make both tick. Parker and Stone play the inventors of the latest sports craze -- BASEketball, a combination of basketball and Home-Run Derby. As the popularity of the sport soars, our heroes fight to keep their integrity and their friendship intact. BASEketball doesn't have the fluid comic style of his previous gems like Airplane! and The Naked Gun, nor are the jokes as consistent. But between the slapstick, low-brow humor and celebrity guests, there's plenty of dumb bits which -- like Parker and Stone's TV show -- sometimes go too far but are funny anyway. Parker seems more at home in front of the camera than his partner-in-crime Stone, though both are equally willing to do whatever it takes to get a laugh. BASEketball isn't a home run, there are quite a few swings and misses, but it will make you laugh.
