REVIEW
As old-fashioned as the period costumes its large cast wears, The Babe is a brash, sentimental and entertaining look at the life of baseball legend Babe Ruth. Sticking to the facts more consistently than the pretty bad 1948 biopic The Babe Ruth Story, the film benefits from a larger-than-life characterization from big guy Goodman. Weighed down by some heavily dramatic scenes, the story follows Ruth's meteoric rise in the 1920s where, first as a Red Sox and then as a New York Yankee, he would make baseball history. Fans of the sport should find The Babe endearing; though non-fans may be at a loss as the film almost canonizes the Bambino. You Might Also Like
