The story of New Zealand novelist and poet Janet Frame is lovingly rendered and subtly moving without ever employing cheap sentimental devices. Frame published various successful works while hospitalized for schizophrenia, but that's only one part of this sprawling portrait of self-discovery from Sweetie director Campion. A remarkable performance by Fox as the adult Frame.
