Caan is well cast as a tough L.A. cop who is partnered with an alien -- from outer space. It seems in the not-so-distant future, an alien race will arrive on Earth after the destruction of their own planet, though they are welcomed with not-so-opened arms. The first half of the film is an intriguing sci-fi adventure, but the story disintegrates into a routine buddy film. Patinkin is oddly affecting as Caan's man-from-outer space partner.
