"Candid Camera" -- South African style! Uys, director of the two The Gods Must Be Crazy films, keeps the laughs rolling in this funny, though a little long, series of Allen Funt—inspired vignettes of pulling stunts on unsuspecting people with a hidden camera recording their reactions. All of the standard gags are here, but what makes this comedy different is the South African setting -- one sees a land more akin to a suburban Australian mall, where both blacks and whites, quite friendly and familiar to each other, are involved in the stunts, suggesting (like his other movies) a land of racial equality. Propaganda or not, the film, for those not over-exposed to this type of humor, is infectious and a little mean-spirited fun.
