Offering the slimmest of settings (simply a bed in a hotel room) and featuring just two naked characters, director Matías Bize’s thought-provoking and heartfelt drama takes two people, almost strangers, and with them, explores a vast terrain of human emotions. Entertaining, penetrating and often quite emotional, In Bed deftly charts the shifting feelings of intimacy, friendship, vulnerability and even love, all of which begins with a one night stand. The film opens with a scene of a couple having sweaty, intense sex. But after the lovemaking, what you really have are two strangers. Having just met hours before, the young couple –- Daniela and Bruno -– linger in bed, hesitant to resume their real lives so they hesitantly, but with unspoken need, begin to communicate. They discuss, joke, lie and argue with each other on a variety of subjects as the post-coital revelations reveal to the audience and themselves the reality of their lives. Funny and intelligent, In Bed is a simple film with complex ideas, beautifully explored. (Spanish with English subtitles)
